THEATRE 101 WORKSHOP
Abstract
The Theatre 101 Workshop explores all aspects of the theatrical art form, including history, technical theater, acting techniques, and more! Scaffolding throughout the semester will prepare the workshop participants for the final project performed at Arts Fest, where they will write, direct and design their own scene as a group, or do the same for an individual monologue. Over the course of the Spring semester, they will have built trust amongst each other with daily improv warmup games, learned basic acting fundamentals, and developed skills in theater production. Theatre boosts confidence, empathy and serotonin levels for both the participants and the audience, along with general mental health and wellbeing, which can be said for basically all of the arts! The entire UMD community is attracted by this workshop because theatre has so many parts, and no matter what kind of person you are; you can find a place to fit in.
